‘Should I be planning for the worst?’: Uncertainty looms as DREAMers fight for justice

Maria Socorro Leon Pena, 20, is one of Arizona's 27,865 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival Recipients. Haidee, a single mother of three, brought her to the United States from Mexico when she was five with her younger brother. Maria and Haidee have worked for years to scrap by in their Paradise Valley trailer home, raising Maria's two younger brothers, Alan, another DACA recipient, and Eric, a U.S. citizen. But when President Donald Trump announced the end of the program in 2017, Maria's already uncertain life in the U.S. was thrown into peril. With the heart of an activist, Maria joined DACA recipients and immigrants from across the country to tell her story to Congress.
